Dealership marketing guide

Car Dealership Video Marketing

Start with one vehicle, one message and one next step. A dealership video should help shoppers understand what you are offering and how to enquire—not try to tell your entire dealership story at once.

01

Choose the job before the format

For inventory advertising, choose the specific vehicles you want to promote and check that they are still available. A short inventory reel can highlight the model, its distinguishing features and the dealership. Avoid packing unrelated vehicles and offers into one message.

For a model-focused explanation, use a presenter-style video to answer a concrete shopper question: what makes this vehicle suitable for their needs? Verify every feature against the actual vehicle and trim. An AI presenter is a creative format, not evidence of a real employee or customer endorsement.

A cinematic format can emphasize a vehicle's design and premium character. Customer-style storytelling can make a buying scenario relatable. Neither format replaces accurate vehicle information or a clear next step.

02

Prepare a brief that prevents rework

Gather your dealership name, website, city and state, the vehicle or promotion you want to feature, and the destination for enquiries. Decide whether the ad should encourage shoppers to view inventory, ask about availability or book a visit. Send current vehicle information and any approved branding with your brief.

If an ad mentions price, financing or a limited-time promotion, confirm the exact terms and required disclosures before production. Do not use a stock image to imply an exact vehicle condition or specification it cannot establish. Review the finished creative against your actual inventory and approved offer.

03

Make the message work on mobile

Put the vehicle and main message early in the video. Keep on-screen text short enough to read on a phone, and make the essential message understandable without sound. Check captions, vehicle details and the final enquiry prompt before approval.

Match the aspect ratio and duration to the placement you plan to use. The concepts below demonstrate vertical, social-first creative; check the current requirements of your chosen advertising platform rather than assuming one export fits every placement. Keep important text away from areas covered by platform controls.

04

Connect the ad to a useful destination

Send a vehicle-specific ad to the relevant inventory listing when possible. A promotion should lead to a page where shoppers can see the same offer and its terms. A generic homepage adds an extra search step when someone wants information about the vehicle they just saw.

Check the destination on your phone: is the vehicle still listed, does the offer match, and can a shopper easily contact the dealership? A clear ad cannot compensate for a broken link or an unavailable vehicle.

05

Measure enquiries, not just views

Choose a useful outcome before launching: inventory-page visits, completed enquiry forms or booked visits. Views and watch time can help you understand attention, but they do not prove that an ad generated a sale. Use your advertising platform and dealership records to distinguish attention from qualified enquiries.

When comparing creative, keep the offer and destination consistent where practical. Review whether shoppers are asking relevant questions and whether promoted vehicles remain available. Update or pause outdated inventory ads. Results depend on the campaign, audience, media budget and follow-up; no creative format guarantees enquiries or sales.
